rich girls.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?

I went skiing in the Rocky Mountains and I took a vacation (granted, it was back to PEI, but it was a vacation none-the-less).

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I had to dig deep into my blog archives from this time last year to see what my New Years resolutions were. As it turns out I failed miserably at #2, which was to actually use my gym membership and have it stop being a waste of money. However, in that regards, I cancelled it in September so at least it stopped turning into a loss for the whole year. Does that count as keeping it?

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Not really. Stephanie gave birth, but we were never crazy close.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No.

5. What countries did you visit?

I visited the land of imagination, where you fart where you burp, and burp where you fart.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?

The ability to not drop and occasionally break my electronics.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

August 19th, for obvious reasons.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Getting out of it alive.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Me still being way too harsh on myself.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Not in so many words…

11. What was the best thing you bought?

iPhone 3G.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Can I say mine? MEEEEEEEEE!!!!

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

I’m not too sure about the appalled part, but there were a few times the behaviour of others depressed me and caused me great personal pain.

14. Where did most of your money go?

INTO THIN AIR.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Skiing in the Rocky Mountains, my trip back home, M.I.A., promotion at work, U of C 101, and the new Britney album.

16. What songs will always remind you of 2008?

Coldplay - Viva la Vida

Cut Copy - Feel the Love

The Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go

Katy Perry - Hot N Cold

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) Happier or sadder? You could say definitely happier.

b) Thinner or fatter? I couldn’t tell you. Maybe the same???

c) Richer or poorer? I would have to say richer? On the technicality that I work more.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Adventuring. Biking. Running. Photographing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Spent so much money on food.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

In the comfort of my home, with my family, 2 of my sisters students, and my friend Erin.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?

Negative. I’m doomed to become the old man who lives alone and smells like cat, which will be quite the accomplishment since I’m allergic.

22. How many one-night stands?

Too. Many. I’m a big man-whore, I can’t help it.

23. What was your favourite TV program?

The usual? Smallville? I don’t think I started watching any new shows.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

I can’t say that I hate anyone.

25. What was the best book you read?

William P. Young’s The Shack

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Cut Copy, my Australian, hipster, electronic band. 3 joys in one, huzzah!

27. What did you want and get?

Not so much a physical thing, but I was finally given the opportunity to settle and have Calgary feel like home.

28. What did you want and not get?

Britney tickets? A dog?

29. What was your favourite film of this year?

I can’t say that I saw enough films this year to have one warrant the title of my favourite. Maybe that will one of my New Years resolutions - to go to more movies.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Had too many shots and too much wine. Made a fool of myself when I saw Diana for the first time in a year and half. You know, the usual.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

If the process of “settling” had happened earlier.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion style in 2008?

I would say this is the year I kicked my hipster fashion copycat routine into high gear, and then managed to adopt a very fashion-forward attire for work.

33. What kept you sane?

My headphones, they saved my life.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you like the most?

Britney Spears and Barack Obama.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?

The global economic crisis.

36. Who did you miss?

Friends from back home.

37. Who was the best new person you met?

I met a lot of really baller people this year, so picking “the best” would be impossible.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008?

That the power of forgiveness really does heal.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

“For fear of living in regret, I changed this one when we first met”

 - The Ting Tings’ Shut Up and Let Me Go.
